Protecting Your Heart from Fame – January 7, 2022

“There’s fame and there’s ultra-fame and it can destroy. You lose your perspective, you’re in the eye of a hurricane and you don’t know you’re there. I took a deep breath and said, “I’m sorry you think I’m too ugly for your film but you’re just one opinion in a sea of thousands and I’m off to find a kinder tide.” Meryl Streep has won 18 Academy Awards.

Writing A Story About the Failures of Love – October 2, 2022

“I was wrong to tell you that this is a story about the failures of love. No, it is about real love, true love. Imperfect, wretched, weak love. No fairy tales, no poetry. It is about the negotiations we undertake with ourselves in the name of love. Imperfect, wretched weak love. Every day we struggle to decide what to give away and what to keep, but every day we make that calculation and we live with the results. This then is the true lesson: there is nothing romantic about love. Only the most naive believe it will save them. Only the hardiest of us will survive it.” – Tara Conklin, The Last Romantics

Yet Love is All There Is – October 9, 2022

“We believe in love because we want to believe in it. Because really what else is there, amid all our glorious follies and urges and weaknesses and stumbles? The magic, the hope, the gorgeous idea of it. Because when the lights go out and we sit waking in the dark, what do our fingers seek? Who do we reach for?” – Tara Conklin, The Last Romantics

Is the Desire Still There? – October 16, 2022

Is the desire still there? Are you still driven to write? “A good question. I do ask myself, at the age of 83, what can be next, and I don’t have an answer. At the moment, I’m talking to translators and others about this book. When that’s over and I have, in theory, a clearer mind, we’ll see if anything else is happening up there. But yes, with The Silence, I had the same desire to hit the keys, to look at the words, to keep going no matter how long it takes.” – Don Delillo, award winning author of The Silence, White Noise, The Names, along with many other stories and books.

When You Want Something – October 23, 2022

Robert Redford Never Won an Oscar – October 30, 2022

Let this sink in. Robert Redford is the recipient of four Oscar nominations, a British Academy Film Award, two Golden Globe Awards, the Cecil B. DeMille Award,  an Oscar in 2000 for directing “Ordinary People,” the Presidential Medal of Freedom, but not a single Oscar for his box-office smashing roles. “I’m not disturbed by it, I’m not upset by it because….it’s a business,” he told the Daily Mail when he was 77. Redford is now 90 – still no Oscar. And yet, he’s one of the greatest actors of all times.
